Derwentwater, The Lake DistrictThis is the landing stage area on Derwentwater at Keswick. These wonderful old wooden rowing boats which you can hire just rest at the side of the lake and pick up the light from the setting sun. On this occasion it had rained hard for most of the day and the storm finally broke just before sunset. It was a race to the lake in readiness to capture the setting sun. |

Wastwater Sunset, The Lake DistrictI find Wastwater one of the most scenic and spectacular lakes in the Lake District and its little wonder it was voted Britain’s favourite view. The mountains surrounding it seem to rise up to protect the lake, often allowing the surface of the water to become like a mirror. The other aspect to the lake is the glorious red colours of sunset that descend on its mountains. |

Lake Capri, Patagonia, ArgentinaWelcome to Patagonia on the Argentine side. This spectacular mirrored lake is called Lake Capri. We had camped near to the lake overnight and temperature had dropped to well below freezing, although in the day it would rise well above. The night below I had slept with my XPan camera in the foot of my sleeping bag in an attempt to keep it warm. The next morning when exposed to the cold the shutter release button froze solid. Fortunately I was carrying a digital SLR also which I used to record the sun casting its first light of the day onto Mount Fitz Roy. |

Wastwater Sunset, The Lake DistrictThis amazing, colourful sunset is typical of Wastwater in the Lake District. After a day’s walking amongst the surrounding mountains I returned along the edge of the lake. As the sun dipped lower in the winter sky the surrounding hills glowed red in the light. |

Wastwater, The Lake DistrictAutumn on the shore of Wastwater in the Lake District. This boathouse is perhaps as tranquil a scene as you could wish for. What can’t be seen on the small picture is a man a sleep in the late afternoon sun, sat amongst the trees to the side of the boathouse. |

Loughrigg Tarn, The LakedistrictTo me, Loughrigg tarn is the essence of the Lake District. It’s a pretty little tarn which in summer (as seen here) becomes covered with water lilies. Here the summer sun had given way to stormy skies which had then broken to cast shadows on the surrounding hills. |

Wastwater, The Lake DistrictThis is another typical evening at Wastwater where the lake has been transformed into a mirror for the surrounding hills. This panorama offers a super wide view across the lake.
